Overwhelming Curiosity by Whatsapokemon Overwhelming Curiosity by Whatsapokemon
So, the Curiosity landed earlier this week, and I was glued to the stream as it did. I was elated at the news that it had successfully landed

Honestly, I am impressed by the feat. I must congratulate everyone at the NASA JPL, along with every other organisation all over the world who had a hand in the mission.

My hope is that this will inspire people to care about science, and care about space, to think about things beyond their TV screen, or beyond their plans for the weekend.

Oh, and ponies.

I got to see it twice at JPL before it left for Mars. I too was super excited when it got there! :la:

Aww sweet, that must have been so awesome. I watched the livestream when it landed and that was so amazing, I can't even imagine seeing it up close.

Yup, got to see it in the clean room twice and I also got to see a working life size scale of it at the JPL open house.
The rover is huge! :lmao:

Yeah, they said it was about the size of a small car. A robot that size is actually really impressive. I am so jealous.

According to the Curiosity team, the rover's got a "FRIGGIN' LASER that can vaporize rocks" (their words). I dunno what it can do to dark matter, but Applejack and the rest of 'em better watch their step.

One of my coworkers thought the laser was to fight off martians that it came across. My face hurt for the rest of the day after that facepalm.
I wouldn't worry too much about the girls, Pinkie Pie has mirrors stored all over the place, for mirror emergencies.

Because clearly the obvious response to the first contact with extraterrestrial life is to try to burn it to the ground.

If Pinkie doesn't have some remedy stashed nearby for it, it's not an emergency.

Well, we gotta spread Earth culture somehow, and what better way is there than killing them?

That somewhat paradoxically removes the urgency from the emergency.

Well, if they die, then they can't tell their friends. Let's burn an American flag onto whatever they have that's most like a chest.

Don't worry, Pinkie has urgencies stashed all over Equestria. On case of urgency emergency.

Pinkie has harnessed the higher dimensions for use in emergency-related item storage. What CERN took years looking for Pinkie discovered through convenience.

Perhaps the single most appropriate use for the term "pocket dimension." She can also enter and leave that dimension at will with no visible evidence in our own; she then uses this to screw with normal people.

my mars theory: their was once life on mars similer to are plant but a massive solar flare destroyed every thing

Thanks :D

That theory sounds plausible to me. Considering there is water on Mars I think it would be likely that at least some form of simple life may have developed. I'm not sure about solar flares, but perhaps some large event that triggered massive climate change would have resulted in a destruction of the life.

the theory I’ve heard is that Mars lost some of its moons and was not able to spin fast enough to keep up a magnetic field. Without its field Mars' atmosphere was cut to pieces by solar wind.

Yeah, that sounds familiar, I think I've heard that before. I guess being much smaller than Earth doesn't help it very much either.

Yeah, If it was the size of earth it would not have need thous other moons.

My fanon is that Equestria is a low-gravity world, and possibly terraformed Mars in the distant future.

(The sun would of course be a satellite and not the actual sun, and I guess maybe the real sun burned out? Or is blocked by a Dyson Sphere back at the radius of Earth, something crazy-futuristic like that)

My vision is that the Earth where the ponies live in now is the reborn version of our own planet after Apocalypse, when our Sun turned supernova and literally burned itself out, killing off much of life. This version of my story explains the theory that the Sun which Princess Celestia controls is actually a huge orb containing huge amounts of light magic floating in space.
Reply
:iconrowan193:
Rowan193 Featured By Owner Aug 11, 2012
Trouble with that is, a) The Sun is too small to have a proper supernova b) There wouldn't be any life left, or at least any that stayed on Earth c) There wouldn't be enough planet left to get "reborn".

Although I'm being really pedantic there, since there's actual magic involved in that theory so reality is already out to lunch. But it's hard to come up with actual sciencey ones for a sun going around a planet and beign redirected remotely - it shouldn't still have enough fuel and reaction mass to work fine after even a thousand years, let alone the geological time implied by "ancient real world" type theories, so it has to be violating conservation of energy.

Oh, and I was going to say that "everything else can be excused with just super-powerful nanotech", but I realised that's no longer true, as of the time travel episode, because time travel. I'm not sure what to think now, if I want to have a sciencey fanon for Equestria. But it's not really my primary fanon, I normally think of it as an actual magical land, but sometimes that gets boring.

Don't worry, Fluttershy. :D It's just a robot made by a bunch of aliens that can't survive on your planet. They want to examine you. Trust me, they're nice. After they develop a proper means to GET to your planet, they'll probably hug you. :3
